To Have and To Hold

Do you have a wedding license?

It is with pleasure to advise that both the Barn Suite and the Stables Suite are licensed to host civil ceremonies.
A civil ceremony is simply a nonreligious, legal marriage ceremony presided over by a legal official instead of a religious one. To arrange a registrar you will need to contact Preston Registry office on 0300 123 6705 in order to book the registration staff who will conduct the ceremony and confirm all legalities.
The room hire charge to hold your Civil Ceremony at Stanley House is £750.00.

Who do we pay for the ceremony to be conducted?

The registrars fees are be paid directly to the registry office who will advise of the separate instalment requirements upon booking. Please click here for more information. You must book the ceremony a minimum of 29 days and a maximum of 12 months in advance.

Why can’t I book my preferred time more than 12 months in advance?

Regrettably this is a policy controlled by the registry office and is beyond our control. We do advise that you contact the office exactly 12 months in advance to secure your preferred time.

Can we get married outside in the gardens?

Unfortunately the local authorities will not approve open air locations for a civil ceremony license therefore the marriage would have to take place in one of our function suites (much more suitable for the British weather!)

Can we have a religious blessing at the hotel?

A blessing can be conducted on site as long as this is not performed at the same time as a civil ceremony.

Do I need witnesses at the service?

As with any marriage conducted in the UK, signatures of two witnesses will be required. Tradition states that this is the Maid of Honour and the Best Man however it is an opportunity to include more of your guests in the formalities.

Do you provide any dressing for the ceremony room?

We do advise that the venue dressing organised for the wedding breakfast is utilized at this time, helping with that ever growing wedding budget. The brides bouquet can be used to dress the registrars table once in the safe hands of the groom. Many guests organise an aisle carpet which can be arranged through a third party supplier, supplement charges would apply.

Can a friend conduct the service?

Unfortunately in order for the marriage to be legal it would have to be performed by a registered ceremonies officer. Should you prefer to perform the formalities at another time (i.e. at the registry office) this does open more opportunities for you to personalise this part of your day.

Can we take photographs during the ceremony?

Photographers and videographers are encouraged to capture these special moments, the registrar would advise your suppliers on the day however the only time they would be asked not to photograph would be during the signing of the register however a mock signing would be performed immediately after.

What music is required for the ceremony?

We would suggest having five pieces of music for the ceremony itself, 1 for the bride to enter, 2 for signing the register and 1 for you to walk back down the aisle to as a married couple.

Can I organise a musician for the ceremony?

We would be happy to work with your choice of entertainment, all that we ask is that they have proof of public liability insurance and if required, PAT test certified equipment.

Is it usual to have readings during the ceremony?

Absolutely, and it is the perfect opportunity to personalise and involve more loved ones into the proceedings. Please ensure these contain no religious content, and please provide the registrar with a copy prior to your day for their approval.

Will we have the opportunity to rehearse the ceremony?

This isn’t usually required, and is discouraged for no other reason than keeping that first walk down the aisle as special as it should be.

What are the maximum capacities of the function suites for the ceremony itself?

We are proud to advise that we can host a wedding ceremony for up to 150 guests.

How long is the ceremony expected to last?

Given the fact that the registrars have very strict rules on punctuality, we advise that the ceremony will take no longer than 30 minutes.
