Stanley House Valentine's Wedding Open Day
PRESTON bride-to-be Stephanie Davis and her fiancé Eamon Johnson, toasted their engagement as they test drove a 1933 Rolls Royce Open Tourer wedding carriage, in the grounds of Stanley House Hotel on Valentine’s Day.
To celebrate the most romantic day of the year, Stanley House at Mellor threw open its doors to more than 275 prospective wedding couples and their families, for its exclusive, bi-annual Wedding Open Day.
Guests sipped champagne and mingled in the lavish surroundings of the luxury boutique hotel, enjoying a taste of Stanley House wedding experience. They were serenaded throughout the day by the smooth notes of Wedding swing singer, Howard Wing.
Oliver Cooke, Stanley House general manager, commented: “Our Valentine’s Wedding Open Day was a great success and I would like to thank all our partners who helped make it such a wonderful occasion. Four couples reserved wedding dates on the day, spanning more than 12 months from this May until the summer of 2011. We also welcomed a lot of couples to Stanley House for the very first time on Sunday, including seven who have already expressed a strong interest in sharing their special day with us.”

Stanley House Prepare the Ground for Mummy's Little Darlings
Aaron Houghton from Preston, aged eight, and his five-year-old brother Danny, nephews of Stanley House meetings and events co-ordinator Emma Eccleston, donned their wellies to help staff dig the hotel flowerbeds on Sunday, in preparation for Mother’s Day. The children joined Stanley House Hotel’s trainee managers Joy Parker, Michael Flanagan, Robert Flanagan, Giovanni Re and Adam Wilkinson.
To celebrate Mother’s Day on Sunday, March 14, the trainee managers will be leading the hotel’s younger guests in free flower planting sessions. The children will be invited to plant spring seeds and bulbs in the freshly dug flowerbeds by the patio of the luxury boutique hotel.
Stanley House’s general manager, Oliver Cooke, commented: “For Mother’s Day we wanted to celebrate all our mums, while offering something fun for our younger guests at the same time. Kids love getting their hands mucky and after planting the seeds in March we hope they’ll come back throughout the spring and summer to see the fruits of their labour.”

Ladies Who Lunch with Laurence Llewelyn Bowen
Laurence Llewelyn Bowen makes a welcome return to Stanley House Hotel on March 18th, for the next Ladies Who Lunch fundraiser event in aid of local charity, Self Unlimited.
Laurence’s personal charisma and ability to inspire people to express themselves have established him as the UK’s favourite, most easily identified interior designer. His TV credits include ‘In Search of England’s Green and Pleasant Land’ for BBC1/BBC4, ‘House Gift’ for ITV1, ‘Who Do You Think Your Are’ for BBC1 and 'Laurence and Jackie’s Northern Exposure' for BBC Northern Ireland. He is also the resident interior designer on ITV1’s ‘This Morning’ on which he appears regularly to talk about design and new trends. He is currently filming ‘House of the Year’ for BBC Northern Ireland and ‘Forgotten Welsh Houses’ for BBC Wales which will transmit later this year.
The event will include a two course lunch, prepared by the award-winning chefs of Stanley House’s fine dining restaurant, Cassis, and a chance to browse stalls from a selection of local shops hand picked by the team at the hotel.

Ladies Who Lunch with Gloria Hunniford
ONE of Britain’s most loved and respected TV presenters and broadcasters, Gloria Hunniford, made her debut visit to Stanley House Hotel in Mellor on Thursday, December 3, for a sell-out Ladies Who Lunch fundraiser in aid of local charity, Self Unlimited.
Gloria answered questions from the audience over coffee and warm mince pies and spoke about her charity work, life in the public eye, celebrity friends and colleagues, and her bestselling books, Next To You and Always With You.
The ladies enjoyed a festive two-course lunch, created by the award-winning chefs of Stanley House’s fine dining restaurant, Cassis. A main course of slow cooked breast of local turkey and traditional accompaniments were followed by spiced apple strudel with Bourbon vanilla custard.
A host of Lancashire food and wine producers, florists, jewellers, designers and fashion boutiques also provided stalls for guests to browse, in three of the hotel’s hospitality suites.
Stanley House’s general manager, Oliver Cooke, commented: “Once again our Ladies Who Lunch fundraiser sold out well in advance and we were delighted that Gloria joined us for what was her first visit to Stanley House Hotel. She was a great hit with all our guests. Créme de la Créme at Stanley House
Stanley House Hotel threw open its doors to the cream of Lancashire’s business scene, to enjoy a first taste of Christmas on Tuesday, December 1, at an evening of hospitality and networking with acclaimed motivational speaker, Clive Gott and talented Lancashire caricaturist, Spencer May.
Clive, an internationally renowned public speaker, spoke about the importance of making the most of opportunities in life and encouraged his listeners to break down large-scale goals into a series of smaller, achievable tasks.
The award-winning chefs of Cassis, the hotel’s fine dining restaurant, served a main course of seasonal roast turkey with all the trimmings, followed by Christmas pudding in a rich brandy sauce.
Oliver Cooke, general manager at Stanley House Hotel, said: “We wanted to say a big thank you to our clients and guests, from businesses across Lancashire, by inviting them to an evening of fun, food and entertainment. Clive is a truly inspirational speaker and we have had some fantastic feedback from guests who attended. It was a very fitting start to the festive season ahead.”

Stanley House Team Celebrate at the LETS Awards
Shining stars from the Tourism Industry were celebrated at the 2009 Lancashire Excellence in Tourism Skills Awards (LETS). The glittering awards ceremony, which took place at Marine Hall, Fleetwood on the 12th November, was presented by TV stars Paul Nicholas and Tupele Dorgu. The Stanley House Hotel had three nominations for their very own stars.
Emma Eccleston, Meetings and Events Manager, received a nomination for Excellence in Customer Service, Sarah Shaw, Meetings and Events Co-ordinator, received her nomination for Outstanding Young Tourism Manager, and Martin Hargreaves, Chef De Partie at Cassis restaurant Stanley House, received his nomination for Lancashire Young Chef of the Year.
The competition was extremely fierce, but the Stanley House Stars shone with Sarah getting through to the last three on the strength of her application alone, Emma winning a ‘Highly Commended’ for her category, particularly noting her “Exceptional commitment to customer service over a number of years.”, and Martin winning his category outright, with the accolade of being “In a class of his own!”..
