With the current coronavirus pandemic disrupting many aspects of our daily lives – including travel, social and business – many couples scheduled to get married also have the added pressure of questioning whether their upcoming nuptials will be able to go ahead as planned.

While postponing the wedding that you have spent so long planning can seem like a daunting prospect, being on the front foot and making the decision to postpone your big day could help put the reins firmly back in your control, leaving you to use the extra time from this momentary pause in normal life to plan your upcoming day.

Here, we have put together some top tips to help bride and grooms who are due to get married at Stanley House, continue to plan in lockdown.

We hope addressing our most frequently asked questions will provide some clarity to those with a wedding scheduled during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Since the situation is fluid, what the coronavirus means for you ultimately depends on the date of your wedding.

Stanley House Hotel and Spa has been closed since the Prime Minister’s original hospitality sector lockdown on March 20, 2020, and the hotel will continue to keep its doors closed until the government advises it is safe to re-open.

Couples that have upcoming nuptials which fall during the government lockdown have the option to either cancel or postpone their big day at Stanley House, however postponement has been the preferred option as couples are still wanting to marry.

Given that Lancashire-based registrars are not currently performing wedding ceremonies, couples will be unable to legally marry. As the pandemic is constantly evolving, our couples are advised to regularly review the below sites to keep abreast of the latest government advise relating to coronavirus and wedding ceremonies:

Stanley House prides itself on offering exemplary customer service, and our team is on hand to answer your questions remotely while working from home. Should you wish to seek advice, please address queries to [email protected] and we will endeavour to respond with a prompt reply during normal working hours.

Our commitment is to be open, honest and provide unwavering support to our bride and grooms during this challenging period.

The team at Stanley House are working tirelessly to be as flexible as possible under these unprecedented circumstances. It is most unlikely a postponed wedding will incur a fee, however we are reviewing each individual booking on a case-by-case basis.

There will be no postponement fee to move your wedding to a like-for-like date within 12 months of your original wedding date, unless the day of the week or season of the new wedding is dramatically different for either party.

We are here to support, comfort and find alternative solutions for our couples. Postponement conversations are happening daily as the team have access to our live diary system, meaning they are able to check any preferred future dates for our couples.

Please address these queries to [email protected] and we will do our best to secure your preferred date.

Before you agree your new date with us, we strongly recommend consulting each of your contracted suppliers to ensure each supplier is available for the new date.

One aspect feeding uncertainty is that we do not have a date for when COVID-19 and its affects will come to a close.

Please do keep taking to us as there will always be a level of flexibility and compromise from our team if you do need to move your date once again due to the coronavirus.

While our terms and conditions reference that ‘Only one postponement from the original Wedding Date will be allowed’, if the new date is again impacted by the government lockdown, we will waive this term in the contract and allow you to move to a new date once again.

While we understand your wedding planning experience has been exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic, love is most certainly not cancelled.

Planning a wedding is a magical experience, and although times are surreal, your day will come, so do try and focus on the two of you, your love, and continue to try and enjoy the planning process.

We wish our Stanley House family of staff, suppliers and customers, as well as our planet, a speedy recovery, and look forward to welcoming you to our house on the hill soon.

Thoughts from a bride impacted by COVID-19

Thank you for offering your much appreciated support. I keep saying to Ciaran I am so glad we have Natalie at the other end of the phone/email. Honestly we can’t thank you enough, and we are looking forward to the next 12 months, another year of me hassling you! At least we have our favourite wedding coordinator in tow though! We have been some highs and lows between us, roll on 2021!’ – Rescheduled 2020 bride, Steph Wain
